I’m Jeremy Schwach. I build healthcare companies, back good people, and spend a lot of time thinking about creating a good place to work.
Three companies in, I’m still a student of building great culture. Turns out that’s the hard part.
A little context
I’ve spent 20+ years in and around healthcare, much of it in the Epic ecosystem. There are few things more complicated than US healthcare. If you want to solve the hardest problems, you have to find the best humans. And the best humans want to work at great places. Build one of those, and you’ve got a real advantage.
That’s been my primary strategy. We built Bluetree (acquired by Providence in 2019) with the simple premise that keeping the bar high would be a competitive advantage. It was. And now we're taking those learnings to Hummingbird, where we're applying the same principles to an even more challenging space: making getting access to care actually work in America.

We help health systems make it less painful for patients to get care. That means bringing people, operations, and technology together. In healthcare, that’s plenty to keep us busy.
We built a healthcare IT consulting firm that worked with 18 of the top 20 U.S. health systems. Providence acquired Bluetree in 2019, and I stuck around through 2022. Culture was a big part of the story.
Getting home to Minnesota from UW–Madison was a pain, so I started a bus company from my dorm room. A fairly literal solution to a transportation problem. Mad-Bus ran for almost a decade.

I work with leadership teams and private equity groups on growing healthcare companies. Usually that involves talking about the people as much as the business.
